Hubcaps for Winter Wheels

Or other Odd or Unusual steel wheels.

In the fall, many people buy "Winter Wheels" to put their snow tires on. These are usually standard steel wheels from tire or auto dealers; they may be "Take Off" wheels from another customer car who wanted fancy alloy rims, or they may be some other cheap import wheels.

Most of the time, these wheels will take Universal-Fit hubcaps easily.

However, there are a few ODD wheels out there, though, that may present problems.

Every year a few of our customers find out they have this problem when hubcaps do not fit.

We suggest that you obtain a guarantee from your wheel source that your wheels will take hubcaps, so that if there is a problem, they will either fix it or swap the wheels for some others that work.

If you are already past that, and are trying to fit hubcaps the the wheels you have,  it may be one of several problems.

Please Read this entire page, and See the pictures below.    Call if you have Questions.

Most problems relate to interference in the center area of the Steel Wheel, resulting from:

1. Raised Ring of the steel wheel itself, just outside the lug nut circle, which  may be taller than normal.

To test for this, place a straight edge across the wheel as pictured below.

2. Tall center hub, grease cap or castle nut. See Pictures Below.

3. Long lug nuts. If your lug nuts are SLIGHTLY longer than the studs they are screwed onto, the hubcaps on this page will fit just fine. But if your lug nuts are extra-long, fancy, colored, or locking aftermarket products, such as those pictured below, it is likely that NO standard hubcaps will fit over them. For maximum clearance of tall lug nuts, you may want match the number of hubcap lugs to your wheel lugs, so you can align the long lug nuts into the spaces on the back of the hubcap.

Our experience has found the hubcaps shown on this page have

Extra Center Clearance, and will work with most of the problems listed above.

This picture below shows a straight edge across a steel wheel from edge to edge. It should not rest on tire rubber at either end, it should rest on the outer lip of the wheel, where the yellow arrow points on the right side.
There should be no contact with the straight edge by either the lug nuts nor the raised ring around the lug nuts, marked with the red arrows. If your wheels have parts projecting past this line, then you should measure how far past and call us.

If your center hub (center nut, grease caps, bearing buddies, or grease nipple)

extends past the plane of  the edge of the steel wheel, as shown in the pictures below.

Accurately Measure how far past and Call us for proper fitting.
